Cardstock materials, printed in black ink on colored cardstock, are attractive and economical because they can be used over and over again. Children love cardstock manipulatives and often choose them first; however, teacher preparation requires cutting and organizing the components. Blacklines of a manipulative, free-response versions of cardstock manipulatives, are great for follow-up, deskwork, or homework. Free-response cardstock taskcards are also attractive, easy to access as needed, and offer a higher level of abstraction. Blackline taskcards present exactly the same problems as the cardstock taskcards, but each student has his or her own copy for written work.
